Wake Forest Baptist wins Intelligent Hospital Awards
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's Enterprise Visibility Team won the Best Comprehensive Integration and Improving Regulatory Compliance awards at the HIMSS 2014 Intelligent Hospital Awards for their use of CenTrak’s Gen2 IR RTLS hardware and Intelligent InSites software to implement real-time location and environmental monitoring solutions that prevented the loss of $90,000 worth of flu vaccines and fostered a culture of innovation improving patient and staff workflows.
CenTrak congratulates the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's Enterprise Visibility Team for their recent achievements in implementing real-time location system (RTLS) and environmental monitoring solutions. The medical center utilizes CenTrak’s Gen2 IR RTLS hardware and Intelligent InSites’ operational intelligence software as part of their enterprise visibility solution.
The Intelligent Hospital, part of the RFID in Healthcare Consortium, recognized the medical center with two awards at the HIMSS 2014 Conference:
- Best Comprehensive Integration Award
- Improving Regulatory Compliance
In the category of Improving Regulatory Compliance, Wake Forest highlighted that "6,000 doses of flu vaccines valued at $90,000 would have been discarded and repurchased if the temperature had not been adjusted." According to the Intelligent Hospital Awards presenter, the success of these efforts has fostered a culture where staff eagerly submit ideas on how real-time data can be integrated with new or existing systems to improve both patient and staff workflow, ultimately enhancing the patient experience.
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference showcases innovations from hundreds of vendors in the healthcare technology field. HIMSS is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality, safety, cost-effectiveness, and access through the optimal use of information technology and management systems.
This marks the second consecutive year that CenTrak customers have been recognized among the most innovative healthcare organizations at the RFID in Healthcare Consortium's Intelligent Hospital Awards.

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's Enterprise Visibility Team won two Intelligent Hospital Awards at HIMSS 2014 for their comprehensive integration of CenTrak's Gen2 IR RTLS hardware and Intelligent InSites software, notably improving regulatory compliance by preventing the loss of $90,000 worth of flu vaccines through real-time environmental monitoring, thereby fostering a culture of innovation that enhances patient and staff workflows.
Food Service Monitoring
CenTrak's Food Service Environmental Monitoring system provides continuous, automated temperature tracking with accurate sensors and software to ensure safe storage of perishable food and dishwasher rinse temperatures in healthcare settings, reducing food waste, enhancing safety, eliminating manual checks, enabling regulatory compliance, and delivering real-time alerts for temperature deviations.
Blood Bank Monitoring
CenTrak's Blood Bank Environmental Monitoring solution uses wireless LCD sensors and real-time alerts to automatically track and maintain optimal temperature, humidity, and air pressure conditions in blood storage and transport, ensuring compliance with AABB standards, preventing contamination and spoilage, enhancing patient safety, reducing product loss, and improving staff efficiency through automated reporting and NIST-certified accuracy.
Wireless Hospital Temperature Monitoring & Compliance Systems
CenTrak offers a scalable, wireless, real-time environmental and temperature monitoring system with NIST-traceable sensors and automated compliance reporting for healthcare settings—including pharmacies, labs, blood banks, vaccine storage, cryogenic storage, food service, and pressurized rooms—ensuring patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency through continuous monitoring of temperature, humidity, air pressure, door status, oxygen, and liquid nitrogen levels with instant alerts for corrective action.
Storing Vaccines Correctly
Improper vaccine storage in healthcare facilities, such as incorrect refrigeration temperatures or equipment failure, compromises vaccine potency and effectiveness, endangers patient safety by leaving them unprotected against diseases, risks wasting limited vaccine supplies, and undermines patient trust, making adherence to manufacturer guidelines and regulatory standards essential.
Temperature Monitoring
At the 2011 ASHE Show, hospitals showed strong interest in CenTrak's Remote Temperature Monitoring solution, which offers reliable, wireless, 24/7 temperature sensing with automated alerts and detailed reports to help healthcare facilities comply with stringent standards for storing critical medical resources, and can be integrated with Real-Time Location Solutions for expanded functionality.
