The Reality Of Person Centered Care
The article discusses how Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS), developed by CenTrak and implemented in senior living communities like the Homeplace of Henderson, enhance person-centered care by enabling timely responses to residents' needs, improving safety, and encouraging social engagement to promote healthier aging in place.
Person-centered care has become a focus in healthcare, and long-term care is no exception. One of the biggest breakthroughs is the use of Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) to better care for residents as they age in place.
Deric Blattenberger, the general manager of senior living at CenTrak, recently appeared on LTC Heroes to discuss the process of developing an RTLS platform that was purpose-built for senior communities. He and Experience Care's Victoria Arama were also joined by the executive director of the Homeplace of Henderson, Jessica Beaven, who has witnessed firsthand the benefits of CenTrak's RTLS.
As Beaven explained, person-centered care is at the heart of the Homeplace's efforts as an organization. "Person-centered care is what we founded our values on, and, at the end of the day, if the person isn't the center of what you're deciding, then the focus needs to be changed," she said. That's why she emphasizes giving residents the care they need as soon as possible. And RTLS technology makes that possible. "Whenever we receive an alert, it is addressed in a very timely fashion, meaning we are able to locate the residents immediately," Beaven said.
Another advantage of RTLS is that it makes it safe to allow seniors to pursue their interests and participate in more gatherings. "You want to have more social people," explained Blattenberger. "More social people are healthier people for a longer time and that was a mission that was at the root of what we wanted to support."
With this sort of advancement, long-term care settings will only continue to become increasingly person-centered every single day.
