CenTrak Releases Suite of New Temperature Tags

CenTrak has launched the IT-735 Probe-based Temperature Sensor Tag, a wireless device that monitors and reports refrigerator and freezer temperatures in healthcare facilities with high accuracy and customizable alerts, automating compliance documentation, reducing manual labor, and enhancing patient safety, as demonstrated by its deployment at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC.

CenTrak, a provider of Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) for tracking equipment, patients, and staff in healthcare facilities, has announced the release of its new IT-735 Probe-based Temperature Sensor Tag. This tag can be used as a standalone solution or integrated with CenTrak’s full RTLS asset and people-tracking system.

CenTrak's Temperature Sensor Tags wirelessly track and report temperature levels of refrigerators and freezers in healthcare settings, automating regulatory compliance documentation. The probes monitor a wide range of temperatures, from cryogenic (-200° C) to room temperature (+50°C), with customizable reporting rates down to a few seconds and 0.50°C accuracy. The devices can generate alerts when the temperature deviates from preset parameters and provide automated 24/7 temperature logs, eliminating manual documentation and human error. Detachable probes allow for easy customization of temperature ranges and facilitate cleaning. Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC recently deployed the new CenTrak Tags.

According to Stephen DiGioia, Director – Technology Development for the Innovation Center at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, "CenTrak’s probe-based Temperature Tag allows us to monitor temperature ranges automatically and instantaneously. This saves money and time by identifying and alerting us to out-of-range temperatures, and eliminating manual temperature documentation. We can get reports on demand or schedule them to run on a regular basis. All of this saves staff time and money, and it gives us more accurate records for reporting to the Joint Commission and other interested parties."

Key Benefits of the CenTrak Probe-based Temperature Sensor Tag

  • Improves patient safety: Monitors refrigerators that store medications, blood, and specimens to ensure proper temperatures, assuring compliance with guidelines and regulations.
  • Saves hospitals money: Reduces the need for manual tracking and reporting of refrigerator and freezer temperatures, and helps prevent financial loss from spoiled medications, specimens, or blood products.
  • Reliability: Utilizes CenTrak’s patented DualTrak™ Technology, resulting in a battery life of 5 years at a standard read-rate. The tags cache data if the network fails, ensuring no data is lost until connectivity is restored.

Ari Naim, CenTrak CEO, stated, "This latest product release demonstrates how CenTrak continues to lead the industry in providing scalable RTLS solutions. These Temperature Sensor Tags are an example of how our growing list of hospital customers can leverage their existing investment. CenTrak’s infrastructure can be purchased for one use case, but be deployed to address many more."
